SUMMARY:Women’s Forum Sierra Leone Hosts Successful Inception Meeting in Moyamba Under Spotlight Initiative 2.0
DESCRIPTION:Women’s Forum Sierra Leone has successfully conducted an inception meeting in Moyamba District on 29 April 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen community engagement under Spotlight Initiative 2.0. \nThe meeting\, held at the Moyamba Court Barry\, brought together a wide range of stakeholders including local chiefs\, Mammy Queens\, women living with HIV\, youth representatives\, Soweis\, civil society organizations\, and commercial sex workers. The engagement aimed to promote inclusive participation\, strengthen community ownership\, and encourage collective action to end violence against women and girls. \nAs the lead implementing partner for UN Women\, WFSL is implementing the project titled “Strengthening Women’s Rights Movements and Transforming Social Norms to End Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) and Harmful Practices (HP).” As part of the inception process\, outreach activities were also carried out across three chiefdoms in the district. \nCommunity scorecards will be introduced in Korri\, Ribbi\, and Kargboro Chiefdoms to help track progress\, improve accountability\, and support evidence-based community responses. \nThis engagement marks another important step in WFSL’s commitment to protecting the rights of women and girls and working with communities across Sierra Leone to build safer\, more inclusive\, and violence-free societies.

Key sessions included advocacy and lobbying\, where GYWs learned how to build strong relationships with policymakers\, as well as creative approaches through art\, media\, and drama to drive change in their communities. \nParticipants were also trained in resource mobilization and project management\, gaining knowledge on proposal writing\, securing funding\, and sustaining initiatives. Leadership sessions further strengthened collaboration\, self-awareness\, and empowerment among the young women. \nThe day ended on a positive note with moments of fun and bonding\, reinforcing unity and teamwork among participants. \nThe boot camp continues to serve as a platform for nurturing the next generation of female leaders\, with participants looking forward to the grand wrap-up of the program in Bo.

SUMMARY:Women’s Forum Sierra Leone Launches Reparative Justice Research Initiative in Partnership with York University
DESCRIPTION:On 17 June 2025\, Women’s Forum Sierra Leone\, in partnership with York University\, officially launched a major research initiative on reparative justice titled “Building an International Partnership to Research and Reparative Justice in Post-Conflict Situations: SSHRC Decolonial Approach to Reparations.” \n \nThe project\, implemented in the Western Area and funded by York University\, aims to promote justice\, healing\, and empowerment for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence\, with a special focus on women and marginalized groups. It adopts a decolonial and community-based research approach to strengthen inclusive post-conflict recovery processes. \nThe initiative brought together 40 beneficiaries of reparations and 20 stakeholder organizations working in transitional justice. Their participation helped to amplify local voices and contribute meaningful insights to global conversations on reparative justice and recovery. \nThis collaboration reflects WFSL’s continued commitment to advancing justice\, supporting survivors\, and ensuring that women’s experiences are central to post-conflict healing and policy discussions in Sierra Leone and beyond.
