Women’s Forum Sierra Leone Launches Reparative Justice Research Initiative in Partnership with York University

On 17 June 2025, Women’s Forum Sierra Leone, in partnership with York University, officially launched a major research initiative on reparative justice titled “Building an International Partnership to Research and Reparative Justice in Post-Conflict Situations: SSHRC Decolonial Approach to Reparations.”

The project, implemented in the Western Area and funded by York University, aims to promote justice, healing, and empowerment for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, with a special focus on women and marginalized groups. It adopts a decolonial and community-based research approach to strengthen inclusive post-conflict recovery processes.

The initiative brought together 40 beneficiaries of reparations and 20 stakeholder organizations working in transitional justice. Their participation helped to amplify local voices and contribute meaningful insights to global conversations on reparative justice and recovery.

This collaboration reflects WFSL’s continued commitment to advancing justice, supporting survivors, and ensuring that women’s experiences are central to post-conflict healing and policy discussions in Sierra Leone and beyond.
